HOW IT ALL BEGAN

“When I step onstage, half the people in the audience know I’m about to sing, and half have no idea that I can.” – Keith Robinson to OurStage.com.

In a world where talent takes you far, Keith Robinson is ahead of the game. He’s a true triple threat. Having already mastered acting and songwriting, he’s now positioning himself to take over the music world with his velvety voice.

Before he made his way to Tinsel town, the Kentucky native set his sights on music and attended the University of Georgia. Upon coming to Los Angeles, Robinson had a chance meeting with a talent manager who jump started his acting career. From there, he thrived. He’s landed an incredible 60 projects in both television and film while continuing to pursue a career in music– often placing songs in the TV and film projects he stars in.

Robinson may be best known for his critically acclaimed role as “C.C. White” in the Academy Award winning feature film, Dreamgirls. In which he was directed by Bill Condon, and starred alongside Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Anika Noni Rose. In the musical, Robinson’s big solo, “Patience,” which he also performed live at the Academy Awards, earned him an Oscar nomination. In addition, Robinson’s voice is heard on six songs from the film’s soundtrack. Undoubtedly, Dreamgirls was a major benchmark in Robinson’s career, and since, he’s been poised to make his mark in music.

After Dreamgirls, Keith began recording his debut album, Utopia. Since then, he’s released several fan favorites including: “My Hustle” produced by RZA, “Loving You”, “Simple Hello,” “Ride For You,” “Thirsty,” and “DJ Lady.”

On the acting side, Robinson followed Dreamgirls with This Christmas, co-starring Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Loretta Devine and Delroy Lindo. He then went on to star in Dear John opposite Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. Roles in 35 and Ticking, starring alongside Kevin Hart, and Hopelessly in June soon followed.

Next, Robinson began shooting Dysfunctional Friends, co-starring Meagan Good and other notable actors and actresses. He also contributed his talent to a number of songs on soundtrack, including showcasing his vocal and songwriting ability on the film’s top single “Same Rules”.

Like many, he’s taken a behind-the-scenes approach to creating music. Robinson founded his own scoring company, Theme Song. Since its establishment, Theme Song has scored music for movies like Blade 3, Fat Albert, and 35 and Ticking, in which he also starred. The budding company scored Divorce Invitation also starring Robinson alongside Jonathan Bennett, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Nadia Bjorlin, Elloitt Gould and Richard Kind. The most recent scoring work was completed on the movie Lapdance starring Omari Hardwick, Carmen Electra and many other notable actors/actresses.

Looking back on Robinson’s rich and illustrious career it’s clear, everything he does is driven by his love and passion to move people. “At the end of the day, I want people to be affected by my music,” he told Singersroom.com. “I want to move the crowd. I want to set the tone emotionally, that is my objective. I want to inspire people.”
